Live everyday like it’s your last is kinda dumb advice.
Unless you are Steve Jobs or Leonardo Da Vinci, you probably won’t want to spend your last day on this Earth working or doing hard stuff, you’ll most likely want to spend it traveling to your favorite places, eating expensive meals, doing the type of stuff that you would do if you knew that you would die tomorrow. All of the saving up to start that business one day that you have dreamt of, grinding on your work hours on hours so that you will get that promotion and any hard work that will one day come to fruition and allow you to sustainably live the lifestyle that you had always wanted gets thrown out the window. I mean if you were going to die tomorrow, why not go out, rob a rich person’s home, steal their credit card, book a flight to Italy, and just splurge on every hedonistic desire that you may have? That’s the problem, unless you are a being of virtue, which admit it, most of us are not, there is no reason for you not to do all of that because you’re going to die anyway and therefore not suffer any consequences.Instead of working each day with a hope for a better future, you will feel an urgent need to do everything that you think would make you ‘happy’ right then and there rather than what is good for you in the long run because you there is not future. If you are a recovering alcoholic, instead of disciplining yourself to not indulge in the harmful substance, you will probably drink as if there was no tomorrow because that’s exactly the approach to life that this quote taken at a surface level is telling you to do.A quote like this wouldn’t stand the test of time if there wasn’t some truth to it. At the end of the day, all it is trying to say is that people shouldn’t waste the precious time in their lives doing things that don’t fulfill them or are making them miserable because you don’t know when your time on this earth will be up.
