Please Tell Me How This Isn’t Misandry…

Imust be a glutton for punishment. I watch ABC’s The View on a daily basis — fully aware that several of its hosts alternate as part of a tag team supposedly trying to fight male chauvinism with the stupid camouflage of female exceptionalism. This past summer, Joy Behar made one of the most idiotic and bigoted statements I’ve heard on this program in a long time. And, trust me: They’ve treated America with some real humdingers. Except, this time, Behar wasn’t cloaking her poisonous sentiments by hiding behind a lame attempt at “comedy.” She said the quiet part out loud. She was flagrantly wearing her hatred of men like a high-end triangle scarf — under no pretense of premeditated humor. On the July 18 episode of this past summer, The View’s panel was discussing how vocalist Bebe Rexha publicly recalled breaking up with her then-boyfriend because he’d confirmed for Rexha that she’d gained 35 lbs. when she’d asked him if her weight gain was noticeable.

Most of the panel seemed to be taking the position that, if you don’t want other people commenting on your physique or image, you shouldn’t solicit their views on it.But then, Behar just had to pipe in with these pearls of wisdom: It’s one thing to call out a guy on his looks, but don’t do it to women. I’m warning all of you. It’s a big mistake to say, ‘You look fat, I don’t like the dress, your hair’s not right.’ Whatever you’re commenting about women, keep quiet. If you want to have sex again, zip it. Because we are at the mercy of magazines, of constant criticism about how we look, about how we wear our hair, we’re getting fat, we’re getting old. Men do not have the same problem. Those [male] love handles could be on the floor, they love it. They don’t care the way women do. Now, for one moment, let’s set aside the bile and callous disregard that has bubbled up and is clearly oozing from Joy Behar’s nostrils, here.
