Black Trauma = Profit for mainstream media

What inspired me to write this article is let alone healing from my own childhood wounds but observing the narrative that is brought up on the black community within the media. Growing up I feel I had a good balance of media (I was born in the early 90’s so that should tell you a lot). A small percentage of the media I consumed was ignorant whereas the majority of the media I consumed had some kind of substance to it. Currently, I am glad that I am able to eliminate myself from the nonsense that I did consume in my younger adult years to help others become aware, especially for the younger generation.

The older I’ve gotten I’ve noticed a lot of what I was used to growing up isn’t the same anymore when it comes to healthy forms of black media hence the reason why I find myself either on YouTube or other media outlets such as PBS and TheGrio to get some kind of uplifting knowledge about my culture.I have come to the conclusion that a good majority of media outlets profit highly off the sole purpose of glorifying the struggle, trauma, and hyper sexualization of African Americans. I honestly feel that they don’t want us to become aware of our own self-worth and stick together so that we can rebuild our own community for the better. I’m convinced a lot of African American celebrities have been used as puppets (knowingly and unknowingly) to go along with the agenda for their own personal gain (meaning $ and a high ranking in the elite club) when in reality they are making their own race look bad.
