#3 CBS in NBA section & the Israel War


Last week I had a long weekend because we didn’t have class on Monday! But still feel exhausted. Anyway, today we will focus on sports page design. I will also cover some observations of news related to Israel. As I mentioned last week, the NBA’s new preseason game is in progress. But there isn’t any breaking news so far. The first thing I notice on this page is the NBA scores board. It’s at the top of the page for readers to check the games and schedule. There’s also a row for leading readers to browse different data information such as standings, schedules, and teams.To focus on the stories below, I cannot find a time when the stories were issued. The only way to observe the stories renew frequency is to open the story and the time is shown at the byline. I checked the page at 12 p.m. and refreshed it around 7 p.m., there’s no new story came up in these 7 hours.One interesting part I found on this page is the gambling section at the middle of the page. I think it’s also an advertisement because there’s a link for downloading the gambling app.Different from CBSNews Page, the sports story page is pretty short. It has fewer advertisements than the News page. At the end of the page, there is a huge CBS Sports Newsletter advertisement. Browsing over the whole page, I cannot find a video spot. I have no idea whether there’s no breaking sports news in the NBA coming up or the video sections just weren’t established yet. Focusing back to the News Page, the front of the page is covered by the Israel War. A “live updates” section is established for updating the stories from the Middle East.The intervals of news stories about the war are not long. During the daytime, the CBS updates the stories every single hour. Besides the topic of the Israel War, another top news that has a unique section on the page is Trump Investigations. The section stays here for more than one week.Above is all I have for this week. There’s not a lot of news in the sports section. I will keep my eyes on it when the exact new season starts. Also, I am going to capture how the sports section covers college basketball. I have no idea what I will observe for the next weekly blog. Let me know what you guys want me to share.
