Media Outlets Are Missing the Essential Story: Trumpism = Full-on American Fascism




Uh, No. NO. The crucial story isn’t what Trump says or does — or whatever new nonsense he’s proclaiming or promoting today — it’s America’s rapid, terrifying descent into fascist anarcho-terrorism and the accelerating collapse of our (semi) democracy. The real story is the rapid collapse of reason, common sense, civic responsibility, and conscience — as well as the simultaneous ferocious increase in paranoia, irrationality, conspiracy-mongering, and multi-pronged hate and racism.Over the past eight agonizing years, I’ve been asking myself, over and over again: When is this utter madness going to end? I assured myself that any day now, Americans would collectively wake up and reject Trumpism, MAGA, and all the accompanying racism, lies, and hate.

But of course — it never happened. Instead, the madness took off like a bat out of hell, and it keeps spreading, growing — and worsening. I’ve also been asking myself: Why in the world can’t most Americans, including the media, see or get the full extent of what’s happening here? What accounts for this society-wide blindness and denial? And the answer I’ve been forced to admit and acknowledge is this: We don’t want to know — not really — because it’s too damaging to our precious ‘self-image’ as supposed democracy-loving Americans. Admitting the truth about what’s happening in America would undermine our vaunted image as global proponents/defenders of freedom and democracy and forever tarnish our (mainly undeserved) reputation as a wondrous and exceptional nation.
