My heart-beats are strong, even when they are wrong

In the age of rapid information dissemination, the heartbeats of our society are palpable. They throb with strength, even when they lead us astray. This dichotomy defines the profound influence of media on our collective consciousness, the battle between truth and lies, the potential of the individual in driving change, the delicate balance between overwhelming information and genuine empathy, and the need for media to not only identify problems but also pave the way for solutions. The power of media to move us into action cannot be underestimated. It has the ability to stir emotions within us, whether they be of hope or fear. Research, reveals the alarming truth that falsehoods spread six times faster on platforms like X formerly Twitter. This phenomenon isn’t solely the domain of bots; it’s a testament to our shared fascination with rumors and gossip. The goddess of rumour travels by foot when spreading good news, and flies when it lies.

Truth may falter in the face of the novel and the sensational. As long as it’s juicy and laden with hyperbole or mistruths, we, the consumers, revel in its allure. One thorny issue we confront is the media’s habit for spreading lies, often under the guise of freedom of expression. This contrasts with the responsibility that individuals bear for their actions and words. Mass communication cannot be a capitalist institution, it has no legs to stand on its philosophy of keeping knowledge free, especially free from the powerful, the whole idea of journalism is speaking truth to power, yet the powerful have all the power to suffocate that truth with the media machinery we see today.
