Why Is House Speaker Kevin McCarthy So Bad at his Job?

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s incompetence brought the Federal Government of the most powerful nation in earth’s history to the brink of yet another shutdown. The U.S. narrowly avoided a shutdown with a last-minute rush to close a deal on extending the previous budget 45 days.
Can your nation be the most powerful in earth’s history if its government can’t pay its own bills until the last second, like a student waiting until 11:00 to start the research paper due at 12:00?
McCarthy didn’t want to shut the government down. He agreed to a deal with the Biden Administration months ago to pass an appropriations bill and fund the government through the next presidential election.

McCarthy is not Newt Gingrich, the Speaker of the House who led Republicans in shutting down the government in 1995. The political theater of that shutdown blew back against the Republicans.
Turns out, not paying your military service members and closing non-essential services like National Parks doesn’t play well with the electorate — especially when your motivations are taking away people’s healthcare, leaving Dreamers in limbo, and building a border wall we don’t need.
Most Republicans agreed that this governrment shutdown would only hurt them politically. So, why did we come within hours of yet another pointless shutdown?
